The Thorsby Varsity Rebels put together a dominant performance on Friday, sweeping the Childersburg Varsity Tigers in a doubleheader behind strong pitching and timely hitting.
In game one, Thorsby secured a 5-0 victory thanks to an outstanding outing from starting pitcher Braylon Carroll. Carroll was in control from the first pitch, striking out 10 batters over seven shutout innings while allowing just five hits and three walks.
The Rebels wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Carroll helped his own cause with an RBI single in the first inning. Thorsby extended its lead in the second when Reid King drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Jace Smitherman added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Smitherman led the Rebels offensively, going a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with two RBIs. He was joined by Haston Hogge with two hits, as Thorsby tallied multiple contributions throughout the lineup. The Rebels also showed discipline on the basepaths, swiping four bases, and played a clean defensive game without committing an error. Manuel Castillo anchored the defense with 10 chances in the field.
Childersburg’s Patten Oakes took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing five runs on six hits while striking out three.
Thorsby carried that momentum into game two, exploding for a 13-3 win to complete the sweep.
Collier Price led the offensive charge with a big day at the plate, driving in four runs on two hits. Price delivered an early blow with a three run home run in the first inning and later added an RBI double in the fifth.
The Rebels jumped out quickly once again, as Jace Smitherman singled in a run before Price’s homer put Thorsby ahead 4-0 in the opening inning. They continued to build their lead with two more runs in the second following a Childersburg error and added another in the third on a double by Manuel Castillo.
Cooper Gray earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing three runs only one earned on six hits. He struck out five and walked three. Tyler Pope was charged with the loss for Childersburg after surrendering eight runs, six of them earned, in just over three innings of work.
Thorsby’s offense totaled 13 hits in the game, with Braylon Carroll, Price, Max Burnett, Haston Hogge, and J.T. Green each collecting two hits. Carroll and Price powered the lineup, combining for eight RBIs. Reid King showed patience at the plate, drawing three of the team’s seven walks.
Childersburg managed hits from multiple players, including Chase Price and Tyler Pope, who each drove in a run, but could not keep pace with Thorsby’s consistent offensive pressure.
With the pair of wins, the Rebels showcased a complete team effort, combining dominant pitching, aggressive base running, and efficient hitting to secure the doubleheader sweep.
