The Maplesville Varsity Devils showed heart, determination, and resilience throughout a hard fought three game playoff series against the Fayetteville Varsity Wolves this weekend. Although Fayetteville claimed the series, the Devils proved they belonged on the big stage and gave fans plenty to be proud of with their effort and competitive play from start to finish.
In Game 1 on Friday, Maplesville battled throughout a 7-4 loss. Braden Atcheson turned in a strong performance at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while Pearce Yergan added two hits. Jt Johnson kept the Devils in the game on the mound with seven strikeouts over nearly seven innings of work.
The Devils bounced back in impressive fashion in Game 2 with a 7-3 victory behind a dominant outing from Eli Hubbert. Hubbert struck out 10 batters while allowing just two hits over six and two thirds innings. Maplesville showed patience and discipline at the plate, drawing 10 walks and breaking the game open in the sixth inning. Yergan and Hubbert each drove in two runs, while contributions came from across the lineup as the Devils evened the series.
Game 3 on Saturday delivered another tightly contested battle at Maplesville High School. The Devils fought hard and at one point held a four run advantage before Fayetteville rallied late for a 7-5 win. Maplesville responded early after falling behind, with Randall Stoudenmire and Pearce Yergan helping spark the offense. Yergan and Aiden Abbott each collected two hits in the finale as the Devils continued to battle until the final out.
Throughout the series, Maplesville displayed toughness, teamwork, and a never quit attitude against a strong Fayetteville squad. The Devils’ effort and postseason run gave the community plenty to celebrate, and the future remains bright for the program after another competitive season.
